The EHR that runs the clinic
Medalia is a certified electronic health record built in Iceland. It is an active system, not a digital filing cabinet: automated workflows assign the next step, and patients serve themselves on My pages, booking, paying, signing, and completing questionnaires. Records, outcome measures, secure messaging, and automated billing with Icelandic Health Insurance settlement, all in one system.
Medalia er einnig með íslenska útgáfu af þessari síðu.

One system for records and operations
- Electronic health records
- A certified EHR that meets the requirements of the Icelandic Directorate of Health and the Medical Records Act no. 55/2009. The record is the foundation that workflows and the patient portal run on, not a separate filing cabinet.
- Workflow automation
- Medalia assigns tasks to the right people at the right time, follow-ups, questionnaires, referrals, approvals, and tracks them to completion. Nothing gets lost in email inboxes, and no patient is forgotten.
- Built-in telehealth
- Video visits live inside the appointment in the health record. Patients join from My pages with Icelandic electronic ID. There are no shareable meeting links, and audio and video are end-to-end encrypted.
- Self-service patient portal: My pages
- Patients book and cancel appointments, complete questionnaires, pay invoices, sign contracts, and view reports and results on their own My pages. Login is with Icelandic electronic ID, and the portal can be embedded into the clinic's website.
- Online appointment booking
- Patients book, reschedule, and cancel appointments themselves. Automated reminders significantly reduce no-shows.
- Questionnaires and outcome measures
- Send standardized questionnaires and outcome measures electronically, with automatic scoring and visual progress tracking over time.
- Secure messaging
- Encrypted communication with patients through a secure portal, no sensitive information sent over email.
- Automated billing and insurance settlement
- Invoices are generated automatically, with electronic reimbursement settlement to Sjúkratryggingar Íslands (Icelandic Health Insurance).
- Integrations
- Medalia connects to Heklunet (e-prescriptions and certificates), Sjúkratryggingar Íslands for reimbursement, accounting systems such as Payday, and payment providers Straumur and Teya.
- Security and privacy
- Login with Icelandic electronic ID, encryption in transit and at rest, role-based access control, and a full audit trail of record access. GDPR compliant, built on HL7 FHIR R4.

What makes Medalia different from other EHR systems?
Most EHR systems are passive systems of record. Medalia is built as a system of action: automated workflows assign tasks and follow them to completion, and every patient gets their own My pages. Nothing gets lost in email inboxes, and no one is forgotten.
Is Medalia a certified EHR system?
Yes. Medalia is a certified electronic health record system that meets the requirements of the Icelandic Directorate of Health (embætti landlæknis) and the Icelandic Medical Records Act no. 55/2009.

How much does Medalia cost?

Can data be migrated from an older system?
